Tafers (French Tavel; senslerdeutsch usually Taafersch; ? Freiburg Patois Tavi / i ) is a municipality and the capital of the Sense district of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Geography

The highest point is 783 meters at the wells Mountain Rain, the deepest point is located on 564 meters in the area Galtera. The wooded hills Maggenberg, where once the castle sub - Maggenberg (about mid-12th century arose and mid-14th century abandoned) was, dominates the village from the south. History

Tafers is first mentioned in 1150 as Tabernae ( Jacc 453) 1178-1189 as de Tabemis ( Cart Hautcrêt, MDR XII 195 ), in 1228 as Tavels ( FRB II 92), 1433 as Tavers (RD VIII 39). Its name is attributed to the Latin -Roman tabernas, which is likely to have its origin in the Latin ad tabernas ( " the inn "). Tafers is therefore a Roman or at least pre-Romanesque foundation, the site of a hostel. The Alemanni have the place name in around 8 / 9 Over centuries by the novels present here and Germanized.
