Taira Honda

Taira Honda ( born June 2, 1932 in Fukui Prefecture, † May 15 1975 in the prefecture of Osaka ) was a Japanese mathematician who worked on number theory and arithmetic algebraic geometry.

Honda studied from 1951 at the University of Tokyo in particular in Tsuneo Tamagawa. In 1955 he passed his diploma. In 1961 he became a professor at Osaka University and 1974 Urban at the University of Osaka. In 1975 he committed suicide for unknown reasons.

His first work dealt with the theory of cyclotomic fields from the viewpoint of algebraic geometry as a theory of rational points on abelian varieties over algebraic number fields .. He sat the examinations in his published 1968 dissertation on, in which he classified abelian varieties over finite fields up to isogeny and work of John T. Tate built (Honda -Tate theory and Honda -Tate figure). Further work related to the theory of formal commutative groups in number theory (for example, relations with zeta functions ) and results on class numbers of algebraic number fields.
