Taishan District, New Taipei

Taishan (Chinese泰山 区, pinyin Taishan Qū, PEH oē - jī Thai -san ) is a district of the city of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, Republic of China.

Location

Taishan is bordered to the north by the neighboring districts Linkou and Wugu, in the east and south by Xinzhuang and to the west by the Taoyuan County. The district is connected to the metro network of Taipei is home to the Ming Chi University of Technology and the Lee - Ming Institute of Technology.

History

The hilly about two-thirds area was settled in the 18th and 19th century by Chinese immigrants and first Sua ⁿ -kha, ( Minnan: " At the foot of the mountain" ) called. In 1763, here the Mingzhi Academy was built, an educational institution at which students from wealthy families could prepare for participation in official tests. It was the first institution of its kind in North Taiwan.

With industrialization and the rise of Taiwan's Taipei to the city of the region of today Taishan received increasingly the character of a suburb. Due to the conversion of the town into a community of Taipei County (now City New Taipei City ), the name was in 1950 in accordance with the two local main temple, the, changed the "Upper " and "Lower Taishan Temple " in Taishan.
