Taitung (台 东 市chinese /台 东 市, pinyin Taidong Shì, W.-G. T'ai-tung shih, PEH oē - jī Tâi -tang chhi ) is the capital city of Taitung County, Republic of China on Taiwan. It lies on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and has about 110 920 inhabitants ( 2004).

History

Only in the late 19th century, Han Chinese settled there.
