Taiwan Stock Exchange

The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation ( TSEC ) is the stock market of Taiwan. The seat of the TSEC is located in Taipei, Taiwan. The TSEC was established in 1961, trading was recorded in February 1962. The TSEC is headed by Chairman Chi Schive and President Samuel JS Hsu.

Traded companies

By the end of 2009 741 companies were listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The market capitalization equivalent to 21,033 billion TWD. The technology driven the stock market is reflected in the weighting of the main sectors (by market capitalization ):

History

Stock market trading in Taiwan began in the 1960s. After the political objective Taiwan is transformed by the substitution of imports for the promotion of exports, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was launched in 1960. This prepared the foundation of the TSEC, which started trading in 18 companies in 1962. However, until the early 1980s, the trade was sluggish, with low international participation.

The successful development of Taiwan towards the exporting country and the consequent strengthening of the currency flowed both capital of Auslandstaiwanesen back to Taiwan, but also increased international interest in the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The opening of the market began in 1983, efficient computerized trading systems were introduced in 1986/87. The following years were marked by speculative excesses. To some extent this also price manipulation and companies were blamed in close relationship to underground organizations.

Only in the 1990s, a stronger regulation of the market was targeted by the Taiwanese government on the one hand, on the other, made ​​an opening for foreign investors.
