The Talbragar River is a river in the middle of the Australian state of New South Wales.

It was first mentioned in the 1820s by European explorers as Putterbatta River. It rises on the western slopes of the Liverpool Range at Cassilis, flows west and empties at Dubbo in the Macquarie River.

Since the river in an area starts with rare rains, he is the most time of the year dried up (see also Creek ). But with rains it swells rapidly in severity and often flooded while the town of Dubbo.

Its main tributaries are the Coolaburragundy River and the Mitchell Creek. The first bridge across the river was built in the 1850s at Dunedoo on the middle reaches of Thomas New, a settler.
