Talysh Khanate
The Talysh Khanate was a state in present-day Azerbaijan, which existed from 1747 to 1826. The capital of the Khanate was Lənkəran. The state was in the southeastern part of Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea. The northern boundary was formed Bolqarchay the river and parts of the estuary of the river Kura.
History
When the Safavid fled during the riots in Iran in the 1720s to the north, also some of them in the area of Talysh settled. The area was conquered in 1722 by Russia. When it was in 1736 returned to Persia under Nadir Shah, who Safawide Saiyid Abbas ruler of the province of Talysh was. When Nadir Shah died in 1747, the khanate became independent.
Already in 1747, died Saiyid Abbas, and was succeeded by his son Qara (also Jamaladdin ). He enlarged the army and centralized the state, he by the feudal lords took over the country and moved the capital of Astara by Lənkəran. He pursued a policy oriented towards Russia, which disturbed the ruler of the nearby Persia, particularly Hidayat from the Khanate of Gilan. 1768 attacked this Talysh. Counter Hidayat Khan Fath Ali Qara asked at the Quba Khanate for help. This suggested Hidayat together with other khanates, but became part of the Talysh Khanate Quba. It was not until 1789 it could regain its independence.
Aga Mohammed Khan Qajar in 1794 led an expedition from Persia to northern Azerbaijan. After Talysh did not want to join an alliance against Russia, it was attacked in 1795. Since the Army could not withstand the attack, Khan Mir Mustafa called on the Russian General Gudovich for protection. Catherine II sent troops to protect, but these were removed after her death in 1796 by Pavel I.. It was not until 1802 Talysh Russian protectorate.
As a result of the Russo- Persian War 1804-1813 Lənkəran was captured in 1809 by the Persians. After a short siege under Pyotr Kotlyarevsky the city on January 1, 1813 was captured again by the Russians. In the same year the Khanate after the Treaty of Gulistan part of the Russian Empire.
After the death of Khan Mir Hasan 1826 the khanate was dissolved.

Economy
After Lənkəran had become the capital of the Khanate, it developed into an important commercial town in the region. Under Khan Qara many craftsmen were called to Lənkəran and expanded the city, they then had two bazaars.
