Tanja Liedtke

Tanja Liedtke (born 6 October 1977 in Stuttgart, † August 17 2007 in Sydney) was a German dancer and choreographer.

Career

Liedtke studied in Madrid and then in the UK at the Elmhurst School for Dance and the Ballet Rambert School. In 1997, she moved permanently over to Australia. She danced among others with the Australian Dance Theatre. As a freelance choreographer she has created works for the Mannheim Academy of Dance and the company De Anima in Brazil.

In 2004, she developed her first full-length work Twelfth Floor, which on a tour of Australia had great success in 2006. For this work she received the 2006 Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography.

In May 2007 she was appointed as successor to Graeme Murphy, Artistic Director of the most important Australian Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, which caused a stir because of their age and the highly skilled competitors. In October 2007, they should take their place.

On 17 August 2007 Tanja Liedtke came with 29 years as a pedestrian in a traffic accident in Sydney killed. It was recorded in close proximity to her apartment while crossing a street of a garbage truck fatal.

In June 2008, was founded named after her Tanja Liedtke Foundation Its purpose is the promotion of art and culture with a particular focus on dance and theater, most notably in the fields of contemporary dance and modern dance theater.
