Tank truck

Tankers are special vehicles for the transport of liquids and gases of all kinds

Road vehicles

Road vehicles with tanks exist in different versions. While some versions are pure transport vehicles, many tankers have also equipment ( pumps, hoses, flow meters ) on board to deliver their cargo (eg oil tankers for distribution to the consumer ). In order to minimize risks by moving liquid cargo while driving, the tanks are equipped with baffles.

Usual versions:

  • Lorries (trucks ) with a tank instead of a loading area, also referred to as Tank, abbreviation TA
  • Semi-trailer with tank construction or as a self -supporting structure, for example abbreviation DST ( pressure saddle tanks, optional DSTK. K for conical shape of the container )
  • Tanker trailers and tanker construction, code TAH
  • In the military, often normal trucks come with mounted auxiliary tank as tankers used. Possible short- term AT ( demountable ) and WTA, WTAH (W stands for change, that is, the design has been performed around the tank when needed easier to separate from the chassis )

Rail vehicles

Tankers are referred to as " tank car " in the area of the railway.

Uses

  • Fuel transporter as a feeder to gas stations
  • Airfield tanker with its own tank - called Refueller or Bowser - even with trailer (also not street legal, as more than 45,000 liters of volume, over-width )
  • Airfield tank car without own tank - called hydrant dispenser or cars for airport hydrant system ( underground fueling )
  • P- Cart - special form of a dispenser, portable hydrants car without motor ( trailer), some with solar panels for power supply
  • Fuel oil transportation
  • LPG transportation
  • Chemistry transport
  • Water transport for artificial irrigation in semi-arid or arid regions

Demarcation tanker

For the transport of pourable solids ( eg flour ), which can be conveyed pneumatically or hydraulically, trailers are also used.
