Tantoo Cardinal
Rose Marie " Tantoo " Cardinal ( born July 20, 1950 in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada) is an indigenous actress ( Cree Métis ).
Life
Cardinal grew up with her grandmother in Anzac, Alberta and began her acting career in the local theater scene. It attracted attention in 1986 with her acting performance in abysses of Anne Wheeler, for which she was nominated for a Genie Award for Best Actress.
It was followed by appearances in films such as Dances with Wolves, Black Robe - By the river of the Iroquois and Legends of the Fall. Besides, she often played supporting roles in television series. Your guest appearances in the popular Canadian series North of 60 earned her three nominations for the Gemini Award, she also won in 1996. For her role in the television drama wanderings of the heart ( 2000) she received the 2001 First Americans in the Arts Award.
In 1993, Cardinal received an honorary doctorate from the University of Rochester. She was married from 1988 to 2000 with the actor John Lawlor. From this marriage a child went forth.
