Tanvir Ahmad Khan

Tanvir Ahmed Khan ( born 1932 in the district of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, British India, † November 16, 2013 in Islamabad, Pakistan) was a Pakistani politician and diplomat.

Life

At the partition of India in 1947 his family moved from the Indian part of Punjab today over into Pakistan's Lahore. Khan studied in Lahore and at the University of Oxford, where he earned a degree in English Literature.

From 1974 he was employed in the diplomatic service of Pakistan. He was Pakistani ambassador to Iran, Czechoslovakia, Bangladesh, France (1990-1992) and Russia ( 1993-1997).

1989 to 1990 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan (Foreign Secretary ) in the government of Benazir Bhutto. Twice he held the office of the government spokesman. After his retirement from active politics, he was active in journalism as director of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad as well.
