History

The original band consisted of members of the medieval music group Corvus Corax. The idea is not to rely only on medieval-looking instruments, the founding members came already 1996. 1997 saw the establishment of the project dancing feet. The name is borrowed from the Middle Ages: When in the middle of the 14th century there was the plague in Europe, was sometimes as long danced ecstatically, until people collapsed or died. They had the dancing feet to escape exhaustion and suffering.

In March 1999, the self-titled debut album appeared dancing feet on the EMI Electrola label. The album was produced by Jon Caffery, who was responsible for albums of Die Toten Hosen and Einstürzende Neubauten.

After several changes of occupation a solid formation has re- formed in October 2010.

July 8th, 2011 appeared with Morus et diabolus an acoustic medieval music album without electric guitars.

Style

Music

At first four studio albums, the medieval elements are strongly reduced to the bagpipes. Instead, are elements of industrial rock in the foreground. Due to the hard guitar riffs and deep sung German lyrics those albums are close to the genre New German hardness.

The published after the separation of Corvus Corax and dancing feet Morus et Diabolus 2011 album is an acoustic medieval music. The musicians perform after the separation of the two earlier closely related groups under the name of dancing feet as a medieval band on. The roots of almost all band members are in some cases for more than 25 years in the Middle Ages music.

On the album White Nights was strongly waived electronic elements, instead the bagpipes are brought to the fore. This album is the Medieval Skirt much closer than the first albums.

Texts

The lyrics are written in modern German. The debut album dancing feet contained scattered allusions to medieval texts and the music of the medieval scene. So the song Exkremento refers critically to the medieval rock band In Extremo. The verses of the song Resurrection sit down in parts composed of a New High German translation of the Old High German Merseburg second spell. The chorus is the first verse of the first Merseburger spell in Old High German.

In the other lyrics are primarily more about emotions, primarily love, interpersonal relationships, as well as parties and celebrations. Medieval elements are hard to find.

Image and appearance

In live performances the band relies on fulminant stage shows. In addition to elaborate outfits and pieces, also the band member devil plays a role, which serves with his shaved head with the statements prepared for horns red hair tufts as the optical center of the band.
