Schandmaul is a German medieval folk - rock band from Grobenzell near Munich.

History

Schandmaul was founded in summer 1998 by six musicians from Munich and the surrounding area. As first song Teufelsweib that shaped the typical Schandmaul sound originated. The first concert took place in Grobenzell on 14 November 1998. After the concert was created in 1999 the first CD titled True Heroes.

The album Otherworld appeared on 4 April 2008 and debuted at number eight on the German album charts. There followed a two -month tour. On 14 November 2008 an anniversary concert was held to mark the 10th anniversary of the band in Munich Zenith with 7,000 fans instead. During the three and a half hour concert pieces from all albums and stages of their careers were played. To mark this anniversary concert live DVD " Sinnfonie " was recorded, which was published on April 24, 2009. This year Schandmaul was also nominated for the Echo music award.

The next - published in various versions - studio album, Infinity, was released on January 24, 2014 after a change of record company on the Universal label and includes 15 tracks. Style

The band used alongside the traditional instruments of rock music ( bass, drums, acoustic and electric guitar ) various instruments of medieval music as shawm, hurdy-gurdy and bagpipe. Further facilities include typical folk instruments like the violin and accordion, an integral part of their music. By contrast, typical of the medieval rock market bagpipe is not used. Schandmaul see themselves primarily from the folk and rock influences, the Middle Ages, playing a minor role by his own admission.

The lyrics are written in German language and sometimes include in syntax and word choice a medieval coloring. They often tell little stories, most of which are embedded in a medieval world. Throughout the band's history is style of music and text have changed. On their first albums outweigh musical medieval and folk instruments and the lyrics are almost all of medieval coloring. Trivia

The song " Outlaw " is part of the soundtrack of the published in 2002 real-time strategy game " Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood ". The band has composed the song specifically for the game.
