Taranaki Herald

The newspaper Taranaki Herald was one of the longest continuously published magazines of New Zealand.

The Taranaki Harald was founded by William Collins and Garland William Woon. Garland William Woon was born in Tonga in 1831 and continued his father William the tradition. The was in Truro, Cornwall born (England), and came as a missionary with his wife on March 10, 1831 in Tongatapu in Tonga. He introduced the printing industry in Tonga and the Fiji Islands.

The Taranaki Harald was the first in the Taranaki region, published newspaper and also the last remaining newspaper of the early European settlers. The first issue of the newspaper was published on 4 August 1852. In 1867 Henry Weston took over the newspaper, which he led as sole owner until 1920. Several members of the Weston family, however, were also connected with the newspaper. After several difficult economic situations in the early years, which were always survived, led economic problems in the 1970s and 1980s, eventually terminating the operation in 1989.
