Tarka (Niger)

Region

Tarka is a rural municipality in the Department Belbédji in Niger.

Geography

Tarka is the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Ingall in the northwest, Aderbissinat in the north, Tenhya in the northeast, Gangara in the east, Falenko the southeast, El Allassane Maïreyrey in the south, southwest and Gadabédji Tagriss in the west. The municipality is divided into 177 administrative villages, 54 traditional villages, 94 hamlets, 59 camps and 23 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Belbédji (also: Belbéji, Belbégi ).

Through the municipality runs in an east -west direction, the total of about 300 km long Tarka Valley, the western direction runs on through the regions of Maradi and Tahoua.

History

The French colonial administration set up in 1943 a canton in Tarka one. The Tarka valley formed its northern boundary to an inhabited by nomads area. In Belbédji an administrative post in 1988 ( post administratif ) set up, one from a chef de poste administratif headed lower administrative unit. The rural community of Tarka was founded in 2002 at a nationwide administrative reform from the canton of Tarka and a part of the then unincorporated area north of the Tarka Valley forth. The administrative posts of Belbédji was raised to the department in 2011. Tarka since heard no more of the Department Tanout, but the Department Belbédji.

Population

About the 2001 census Tarka had 63 848 inhabitants. For the year 2010 86.695 inhabitants were calculated. In Tarka living members of the mainly agriculture based Hausa subgroup Gobirawa and specialized in remote pasture Fulani subgroups Katchinanko'en, Oudah'en and Wodaabe and Tuareg subgroups Ichiriffen, Ikanawan, Imouzgou, Imouzwagan, Imuzzurag, Inesseliman, Kel Gariss, Kel Gress, Kel Iferwane and Tegama.

Economy and infrastructure

The north of the community belongs to a zone in which grazing is the predominant source of income. The South is in the field of Agropastoralismus. In the capital there since 22 May 2000 adopted a local citizen radio (radio communautaire).
