Tassara

Region

Tassara is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Tassara in Niger.

Geography

Tassara is located at the junction of the Sahel to the Sahara desert. The neighboring municipalities are Ingall in the northeast, Abalak to the southeast, the southwest and Tchintabaraden Tillia in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 19 administrative villages, four hamlets, 25 warehouses and 27 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Tassara.

History

In Tassara an administrative post in 1971 ( post administratif ) set up, one from a chef de poste administratif headed lower administrative unit. The rural community Tassara was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform in a previously unincorporated area. The administrative posts of Tassara was removed in 2011 from the Department Tchintabaraden and collected at the Department Tassara.

Population

At the 2001 census Tassara had 17 952 inhabitants. For the year 2010 24.187 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Mahamed Cherif ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On 15 April 2010 the Council of Ministers Mahamed Cherif appointed administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) the community.

Culture and sights

Every two years, in October there will be a festival of Arab ranchers in Tassara and the neighboring village of Tillia.

Economy and infrastructure

South of the portion of municipality in which prevails the desert, grazing is the main industry.
