Tatra Cup

The Tatranský pohár ( German Tatra Cup, English Tatra Cup) is a hockey tournament that will be held in the High Tatras since 1929. Thus, the Tatra Cup is the second oldest cup competition of Europe after the Spengler Cup.

The first edition took place in 1929 in Stary Smokovec instead. While in the 1930s annually at an international and a national tournament were played, only two tournaments took place 1952-1968 due to organizational problems, both of which were won by Sparta Praha Sokolovo. After the tournament got more attention in the West, so that in 1969 the Cologne EC participated in the tournament. A year later came the IF Surahammars first time a Swedish club. In addition, the SC Riessersee participated in the tournament.

With the construction of a covered ice rink in Poprad mid -1970s improved the external conditions for the tournament. In the anniversary year of the tournament, in 1979, took a club Dynamo white water from the GDR part.

Nowadays, the competition takes place every year in summer in Zimný Štadión Poprad as a preparation tournament in which teams participate mainly from Slovakia.
