Tauranga Harbour

The Tauranga Harbour is a natural harbor in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty region. It is located partially in the city of Tauranga and separates from the area around Mount Maunganui from the rest of the city. From Tauranga from the harbor extends in a northeasterly direction along the coast.

The upstream elongated island Matakana Iceland separates the harbor from the belonging to the Pacific Bay of Plenty. The port has two connections to the sea: one in Tauranga / Mount Manganui and further north at Athenree.

Geologically, the port was the rise in sea level from the flooded estuaries of two rivers, including the Wairoa River.

The area of the port is about 200 km2 and has a tidal range of up to 1.98 m. Each tidal range about 290 million tons of water flow through the two approaches and to generate currents in the channels with up to 7 knots.

The seaport of Tauranga, New Zealand's largest export port, is located in this natural harbor and is served by container ships and cruise ships.

The port is next to it, also used for water skiing, kite surfing, jet skiing, pleasure boats for swimming and scuba diving.

Places on the Tauranga Harbour are from south to north Tauranga, Omokoroa, Omokoroa Beach, Apata, Aongatete, Katikati, Woodlands, Tahawai, Athenree and Pios Beach

The State Highway 2 shall accompany the shore of the harbor and crossed it at its southern end in Tauranga.
