Taxi (Portuguese band)

Taxi ( occasionally also in the orthographically correct spelling Táxi ) is a Portuguese rock / pop band.

History

The four men from Porto had about the stations Sticky Fingers ( band founded in 1974 ) and then Pesquisa (German: Research, founded in 1975 band ) come together. 1979, under the impact of various new styles of music by the punk explosion, they formed themselves into a Mod band, and called a taxi. They received an offer of PolyGram for an album that was, however, subject to the condition that they henceforth had to sing in English rather than in Portuguese, which they did. The first single Chiclete (German: chewing gum ) reached a high proliferation and sold over 50,000 copies. The first album Táxi 1981 presented in Lisbon the public, the opening act for The Clash. It was the first gold record of the Portuguese rock music. The 1982 released album Cairo (German: Cairo ) came up with a hint of film cans, printed tin as a cover on the market, and reached 15,000 copies sold silver status.

After her 1985 published, recorded in Hamburg Single Sozinho (German: alone ) was published in 1987 her first English album, The Night. Given the failure to be success, the group broke even on the same year.

In 1998, the band came back together to perform in the original cast at the festival Roma Megarock. In February 1999, appeared under the title O Céu Pode Esperar ( dt: Heaven Can Wait ) a " best of" compilation, with an unpublished piece from the Hamburg recordings from 1985, which gave the name to the album. A drum and bass remix of the Cool Train Crew of Chiclete was released also, and continued to contribute to a renewed interest in the band. As a result, the band performed live on repeatedly, as in the Casa da Música, or the Festival of Vilar de Mouros. In 2009, the band released a new album, but it failed to match their early success.
