Two-piece swamp cypress (Taxodium distichum var distichum)

The bald cypress (Taxodium ) are a genus of the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). This genus comprises only two species, one of which summer green and the other is almost always green. Its distribution area is limited to the southern United States, Mexico and Guatemala. In Europe, of the two species, the bald cypress to find (Taxodium distichum) in parks. In Beetz Strand Park, there is a swamp cypress trees.

Since the wood of bald cypress is highly sought after in the forestry, go to their stocks back. In earlier geological times the species was more widespread. It is known since the Jurassic and is found in about fossil layers from the Tertiary, which are obtained in German lignite mines.

Mexican cypress (Taxodium mucronatum ): This specimen, the "Tree of Tule ", is situated in Santa María del Tule, Oaxaca, Mexico and is according to stem diameter of the " stoutest tree in the world."
