Taxus sumatrana

The Chinese yew (Taxus sumatrana ) is a species of the genus of yew (Taxus ) in the family of Yews ( Taxaceae ).

Dissemination

In the Himalayan region, the areas of the Chinese yew in Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal, India, Bhutan, Burma and China are found at altitudes 1500-3100 m. In Vietnam, it grows on altitudes 400-2150 m. In Sumatra, the Philippines and Celebes there are locations 1400-2300 m in humid subtropical forests, tropical highland areas and cloud forests in the undergrowth; locally they can be dominant there. In Taiwan, it has locations in northern and central areas of the island at altitudes between 1000 and 3000 m.

It is very rarely planted in Central Europe.

Description

The Chinese yew is reached an evergreen shrub to tree growth heights of up to 14 meters. It has a wide bushy growth habit when it is planted. The bark is grayish - red. The Chinese yew is very loose needled; entire sections of the branches are even completely unbenadelt. The spirally arranged at the branches, but acting as double row needles are narrow (2 to 2.5 mm) and about 1.2 to 2.7 cm long.

The year of fertilization in November ripening and second to third standing together, egg-shaped seeds are about 5 mm long and of a red seed coat ( aril ) surrounding it.
