Tayside

Tayside ( Scottish Gaelic Taobh Tatha ) from 1975 to 1996, a region in the east of Scotland.

Name

The region was named after the river Tay, which flows into the North Sea at Dundee.

History

The Tayside Region was formed in 1975 from the counties of Angus and Kinross -shire, the largest part of Perthshire countryside and the city of Dundee. The area of the region was divided into three districts:

  • Angus
  • Dundee
  • Perth and Kinross

1996 Regions and Districts in Scotland were abolished. From the three districts of Tayside unitary authorities were formed.
