Team Drive is a file synchronization and collaboration software for secure workgroup collaboration, teams and friends over the Internet and for data exchange. Team Drive ensures the protection of privacy in the file sharing while protecting it in the sense of online data backup data loss. With the free version of "Team Drive Free " gives 2 GiB free Internet storage in the cloud. The secure data synchronization between desktop computers and mobile devices (smartphones and tablets ) is made possible with the current version of Team Drive 3.

Technical Details

Team Drive monitors any local folder on the file system and synchronizes the content with the personally invited team members. The software is also useful for synchronizing folders between multiple computers or laptops own. All current files and documents are thus all team members at any time, even offline, the file system is available. Thus it realizes important basic functionalities of a distributed file system. Using a server -assisted peer -to-peer -like communication structure the data between the computers are automatically synchronized. Drive team used this several mediation server in order for small teams and also across time zones and firewalls to ensure availability at all times especially away. By consistently very strong end-to -end encryption (256 -bit AES) is a readout of the data in transit and on the servers is not possible because all data is encrypted at all times and not save the key with the server be. History

The Team Drive Systems GmbH was founded in 2005, at that time under the name " PrimeSharing Germany GmbH", from the software development house " SNAP Innovation GmbH" (SNAP ) founded in Hamburg. A core competency of SNAP is the development of database technology, their newest product PrimeBaseXT is available as open -source database engine for MySQL. The development of collaboration software "Team Drive" was supported by the Innovation Foundation of Hamburg public funding from the City of Hamburg. The product "Team Drive 1.x " was previously only available for Windows operating systems. The current version 3 only supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux clients now also Android and iOS clients. On the server side, new cloud computing techniques are used and are as specified placement and backup server used Amazon Web Services.

Reviews

For his versions 1.1, 1.3, 2.1 and 3 Drive team got by the independent Centre for Privacy Protection Schleswig -Holstein ( ULD) in each case the label for IT products awarded ( test number 2-3/2005, valid to 22 October 2015). The privacy seal of the ULD confirmed that the software is legally and safety properly.

Criticism

  • The costs are partly higher than that of other providers of online data backups.
  • Installing the Drive team clients is required.
  • Data is encrypted using a group-wide symmetric key. After the transfer of data to group members they have a permanently valid key for all data of this area, even if they leave the group. However, Team Drive ensures that the user with his key no longer zoom comes to new data.
  • Since the software is not open source, there is no way for an independent review of whether Team Drive applying the encryption algorithm is correct. Team Drive the control of independent assessors and the review of up independent Regional Centre for Data ULD has been subjected. Team Drive and reviewers declare that no backdoors in the software were installed.
