Telesaar

Telesaar is the name of the first German-language private television. It was founded in 1954 by the European Broadcasting - AG, which also operates the stations of Europe 1, to life, this was possible because the Saarland was not part of the Federal Republic of Germany until 31 December 1956 and therefore not subject to German broadcasting authority was subject. Headquarters, technology and studios were located in the Richard -Wagner-Straße 58-60 in Saarbrücken, was sent on the VHF band I, Channel 2 from a specially built for television broadcasting transmission tower on the property of the sender Felsberg - vocation.

After the incorporation of the Saarland as a state, the German authorities examined the further operation, as has been argued by Telesaar that only in French television standard (819 lines) is sent, ie, with German equipment ( 625 lines ) could not be received. Because the program was, however, only in German, it was decided to set the send operation in mid- 1958, the transmitters were sealed by the Federal Post Office, which then had the Ausstrahlungsmonpol. As of October 1959, the Saarland Rundfunk, the public (ARD) broadcaster Saarland sent his own regional program, according to German line systems on the FS- Channel 2

The few preserved footage of shipments of Telesaar is now in the archives of SR.
