Telluride Bluegrass Festival

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is a summer in Telluride taking place every year in the mountains of Colorado since 1974 Bluegrass open-air festival.

History

The festival originated from the annual, going back to the 1899 celebration of the Fourth of July in Telluride. In 1973, the multi-day until then reduced to a one-day, family- friendly event, and for the first time joined a bluegrass band. The Fall Creek band suggested the city to host a festival in the following year.

On July 6, 1974, the festival was first held with three bands and around 1,000 spectators. 1975, it was brought forward to a weekend in the week before the 4th of July. Since it takes place in June every third weekend. Viewership increased every year. Due to the limited space and resources in Telluride the number of visitors is limited to a maximum of 10,000 people.

Among the artists that have occurred during the festival, including: Johnny Cash (1997), the Dixie Chicks (1991 ), Béla Fleck (1986 and following), Emmylou Harris (1985 and following), Alison Krauss (1989 and ff. ) and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (1986 and following).
