Telluride is a municipality with 2325 inhabitants ( 2010) and the county seat of San Miguel County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Colorado. The municipality is situated on the San Miguel River in a glaciated valley. A gondola connecting Telluride with Mountain Village. Telluride is at 2667 m above sea level.

History

The area around Telluride was first inhabited by Ute Indians. 1858 was discovered in Telluride gold. In 1878, Telluride was founded under the name of Columbia. In 1887 the town was renamed by the post office in Telluride, so as not to be confused with Columbia, California. The origin of the name Telluride is not fully understood. He could be derived from the element tellurium, which was never found in rocks of the surrounding mountains or a change of the phrase " To hell you ride! " Pose, which was marked by the miners. The town of Telluride was incorporated as Historic District in the register of National Historic Landmarks on July 4, 1961.

Today, many prominent Americans have luxurious property in the area of Telluride. These include talk show host Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, members of the Disney clan and fashion designer Ralph Lauren.

Tourism
