Temür Khan, Emperor Chengzong of Yuan

Uldjaitu Timur Khan ( Chengzong * 1265 in Beijing, † February 10, 1307 in Beijing ) was an emperor of the Mongol Yuan dynasty in China, Dschingkims son and grandson Kublai Khan. He reigned from 1294-1307 and was a patron of the teachings of Confucius and benevolent ruler who avoided war.

Government

Timur sat inter alia to with the help of his mother Kökejin and the generals Bayan († 1295) against his brother by Kamala. The selection was not great Timur was dependent on alcohol also ate too much and suffered from 1300 under severe gout. But he represented Chinese interests. Kamala to have had a speech impediment and a lower knowledge of Yasa and have chosen the life in the steppe. Nevertheless, Timur became a better emperor than it had thought his grandfather. He allegedly tried successfully to get away from his drunkenness.

To 1303 there was a major corruption scandal in grain transportation. Initially, only two high transportation officials were indicted, but an imperial investigation soon revealed the involvement of 18 473 officials and clerics, including the highest ministerial level, and an illegal profit of at least 45 865 ting. Timur relieved the officials from their posts, but within two years, at least most of the ministers were back in office.

We also recorded an inflation, so that 1309/10 new paper money had to be edited.

Timur had militarily deal with the two Central Asian khans Qaidu and Du'a, which had caused problems already Kublai Khan (especially in his last years ). Around 1300 Timur appears to have taken the initiative and have at least insofar achieved a success than that Qaidu died when returning from this campaign from a wound. After Qaidus death he was widely recognized around 1303/ 04 of all Mongol khans again as Mongol overlords, even though the kingdom was no longer directed uniform.

In the immediate sphere of the Yuan led to new tensions, as the Prince Ananda ( grandson Kublai and governor of Gansu ) with the majority of its troops converted to Islam. Timur disapproved and had temporarily imprison Ananda, was told by his mother about the need for peaceful unification convinced ( 1296 ). From then on he tolerated Ananda's behavior.

In his last years his wife Buluyan and some ministers ruled. They tried by their intrigues the subsequent enthronement of the successful Prince Khaischan to prevent (nephew of Timur ) and sent for, inter alia, whose mother into exile.
