Teodor Currentzis

Teodor Currentzis, Teodor Kurentzis (Greek Θεόδωρος Κουρεντζής; born February 24, 1972 in Athens ) is a Greek conductor, musician and actor.

Life

Teodor Currentzis received from four years of piano lessons and violin lessons from seven. From the age of 12 he attended classes for violin at the National Conservatory in Athens. In 1987 he started studying conducting in Athens before he studied from 1994 to 1999 the tray at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Ilya Musin. Musin was also the teacher of famous conductors such as Valery Gergiev Abissalowitsch, Vasily Sinaiski, Yuri Temirkanov and Semyon Bychkov Chatujewitsch.

Career

In the years 2004-2010 was Currentzis chief conductor at the Opera and Ballet Theatre Novosibirsk, the largest opera house in Siberia. There he founded the Musica Aeterna Ensemble and the New Siberian Singers Chamber Choir and has been awarded several times for his work there.

Launch, in 2006 Currentzis concerts together with the singer Alexey Kudrya in Moscow and Novosibirsk to mark the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

In the film, the director Ilya Dau Chraschanowski, which portrays the life of the Russian Jewish Nobel Prize winner Lev Landau, Currentzis took over the lead role.

Currentzis since February 2011 Music Director of the Opera and Ballet Theatre, Perm. He is also a Principal Permanent Guest Conductor of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden -Baden and Freiburg

Awards and prizes

  • Currentzis won the award of the Russian Theatre Association Golden Mask in 2004 for his work in performance of the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, 2007 Cinderella, a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev and 2011 for Best Opera Conductor for Alban Berg's Wozzeck at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
  • 2013 Currentzis was honored once again for his conducting of the opera Cosi fan tutte at the Opera of Perm with the Golden mask.
  • In 2008 he was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship.
