Teodoro Valfre di Bonzo

Teodoro Cardinal Valfrè di Bonzo ( born August 21, 1853 in Cavour, Province of Turin, Italy, † June 25, 1922 in Rome) was archbishop of Vercelli and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Teodoro Valfrè di Bonzo studied in Turin and Rome, the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy. He completed his doctorate of theology and canon law, and received on 10 June 1876, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies, he joined in 1880 in the service of the Vatican and worked in the field of special affairs of the Church. In 1884 he was appointed special envoy to Costa Rica, but failed his efforts by the outbreak of severe anti- ecclesiastical unrest.

1885 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Cuneo. The bishop ordained Teodoro Valfrè di Bonzo on 3 May in 1885 by Gaetano Cardinal Alimonda. 1895 enabled him to Pope Leo XIII. in the diocese of Como, Pope Pius X transferred Teodoro Valfrè di Bonzo the management of the Archdiocese of Vercelli. Pope Benedict XV. appointed him in 1916 Titular Archbishop of Trapezus and Apostolic Nuncio to Austria - Hungary. In 1919, he took it as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the College of Cardinals.
