Ter Apel

The town of Ter Apel is located in the north of the Netherlands in the province of Groningen and is equipped with 9005 inhabitants ( 2006), the largest village of the municipality Vlagtwedde.

The village lies on the edge of Bourtanger Moors close to the border with Lower Saxony.

Ter Apel lies at the intersection of the Dutch national road N364, N366 and N379; only about 10 km east located on German territory the junction Haren A 31 Cities Stadskanaal and Emmen are both good 15 km north-west or south-west of Ter Apel in the Netherlands, the nearest German city of Haren is 14 km to the southeast.

The nearest regional airport is located in the well 50 km north-west provincial capital of Groningen.

The branch railway to neighboring towns Stadskanaal and Emmen has long since closed down and largely degraded.

History
