Terry Forrestal

Terence " Terry " Julian Forrestal ( born May 13, 1948 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, United Kingdom, † June 10, 2000 in Lysefjord, Norway ) was a British stuntman and actor.

Life

Forrestal was born in Chesterfield and attended Finchley Catholic Grammar School in North London. After the early death of his mother he decided against a planned study and argued instead for a longer trip around the world, which led him among other things, to India. After his return he began to study medicine, but that he soon broke off again. Instead, he went to the Territorial Army in 1975 and later to the Special Forces Special Air Service (SAS ). Among other things, he was employed in the Northern Ireland conflict.

After the end of his service, he turned to the film business and worked mainly as a stuntman and stunt coordinator. Since the mid- 1980s, Forrestal was one of the leading stuntmen in Europe. Besides his work as a stuntman Forrestal worked sporadically as an actor. One of his most famous roles he took on in 1997 in James Cameron's film Titanic as Chief Engineer William Bell.

In June 2000, Forrestal died in Norway at the consequences of a base-jumping accident at Kjerag Mountain. After he had completed several successful jumps, hit the last jump fail and Forrestal landed on a ledge. The accompanying helicopter he signaled that both legs were badly injured. The mountain rescue team searched for him, but had it 10 hours later, still can not find. In view of the approaching night and in the dark about the rescue attempts Forrestal jumped from the ledge. However, the height was too low, so that his parachute could not open and he died as a result of the jump.
