TÄ“rvete

Tērvete ( German Hofzumberg ) is a village in the south of Latvia and namesake of the same administrative unit ( Tērvetes novads ).

History

Tērvete (Latin provincia, queer Thervetene vocatur ) was one of the last strongholds of the Semgallen fighting the Crusaders. After 1286 the place name disappeared. The place name was " Kalnmuiža " the Latvian version of the local estate " farm to the mountain ." In the 1930s, was the current name.

The local collective farm was privatized in 1992 and operates horse breeding, crop production, as well as a well-known brewery.

  • The author Anna Brigadere here had a water mill, which today serves as a museum.
  • The theologian and reconnaissance Christoph Friedrich Neander (1723-1802), the books translated into Latvian, was born here.

Tērvetes novads

, 2002, in the course of administrative reform, the municipalities Tērvete, Augskalne and Bukaiši together. The administrative buildings are located in the place Zelmeņi. July 1, 2010 4088 inhabitants were reported. The largest towns are Kroņauce, Augstkalne, Bukaiši, Tērvete, Zelmeņi, Klūnas, Dzeguzēni and Mežmalieši. The district is the Auce flows.
