Test Icicles
Test Icicles was a London-based 2004-2006 existing band that combined several punk and indie rock - oriented styles in their music.
Although the Test Icicles were established in Great Britain, only an Englishman was in the band - Rory Atwell. Both Sam Mehran and Dev Hynes originate from the U.S., but Hynes grew up in Edinburgh and Mehran lived before he moved to London a few years in Adelaide, Australia.
Mainly, their music is probably attributable to the hardcore punk and dance, but are just as musical elements from several other genres to find, such as indie rock or alternative rock.
The name derives, according to the record company, not from the English word " testicles " (Eng. testes) from, but refers more to the testing of icicles (English icicle ) on strength and strength to these to use as a weapon. This statement is controversial in fan circles as another early common side project of Atwell and Mehran was simply called "Balls " (Eng. eggs as a vulgar term for testicles).
In the spring of 2006, the band broke up.
Band History
2004, met Rory Atwell and Sam Mehran know in London, and soon after it came to the musical collaboration, first as a ball. This band consisted of only a few weeks in which a demo CD was compiled, a little later Test Icicles were founded. Devonte Hynes came in the same year, first as an assistant after the departure of the third band member shortly before a concert as the opening act of The Unicorns in Brighton added and stayed on as a permanent member of the band.
When the band had recorded a demo, this was first distributed among friends and acquaintances of the band members, until it finally ended up by chance at a record company. This invited the Test Icicles to a studio recording for the songs to record the demo tape again in better quality. First there was when this new version of the demos in circulation, other record companies were aware of the band, until finally Domino Records, among other things, Bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Kills under contract, have won the contract.
In October 2005, the album For Screening Purposes Only in Britain appeared in November in Germany, by idiosyncratic appearances in shows like Sarah Kuttner and a few club gigs in the winter of 2005 /06, the band was known in Germany.
The planned 2006 U.S. tour was canceled by the Test Icicles in advance, the record company confirmed a little later that the breakup of the band after the UK tour of the reason is - allegedly was the project Test Icicles from the beginning only for a planned limited time. The website and the official Myspace profile of the band have been emptied or deleted in November 2006.
Two of the three members go since the dissolution of the band's own way: Rory Atwell founded in the spring of 2006, the band RAT: ATT: AGG, which renamed itself in Wrists in August 2007, Devonte Hynes launched Lightspeed Champion the project. About the current activities of Sam Mehran nothing is publicly known.
