Tetrasaccharide

Tetrasaccharides (deprecated tetrasaccharide ) are organic chemical compounds from the group of carbohydrates. Tetrasaccharides are formally of four monosaccharide units ( simple sugars ) by elimination of water ( three equivalents of water). The monosaccharide units are covalently tetrasaccharide three glycosidic linkages linked. The tetrasaccharides belong to the group of oligosaccharides.

Is an anomeric carbon atom involved in the bond, arising reducing sugars.

Acarbose is a pseudotetrasaccharide, a drug from the group of antimetabolites. It is used for the treatment of diabetes (diabetes mellitus).
