Teufelsbach (Goldbach)

BW

The Devil Bach, outdated Goldbeke, is a tributary of the Goldbach.

Course

The source area is located east of the hamlet Elbingeroder Hartberg in the triangle of Hartberg, glasses and mountain Krahenberg to about 490 m altitude. After about 600 meters the westernmost and highest Quellarm meets the K1347 that the strong mäandrierendem Bach course some 5.5 km follows. From the beginning of Drecktals (obsolete: dirt Thal ) combined at the end of Gläsertals an unnamed tributary to the southern source arms. This originates in the area of leak meadow grass and thorn in a common source area with a nameless, which opens on Voigt Stieg right-sided tributary of the Zillierbach. From here the river is called Teufelsbach.

The Devil Bach follows the course of Dreckstals into which the stream has cut a deep gorge in the sandstone of the valley. At the end of the valley of the stream divides. While the left arm ends after about 500 meters at Heimburg, right arm flows as Teufelsbach east until he located on the southern edge home mountain, 275 m high, Horstberg meets. The creek bends to the southwest. After a further 300 meters of Schmerlenbach empties into the Teufelsbach. This squeezes between linkseeitig located Horstberg and the right side lying Great Probstberg ( 325.8 m) and Small Probstberg ( 239.7 m) pass. A little later joins the devil creek just north of the monks mill Blankenburg in the Goldbach.

In 1892 was reported by colonization with Triton palmatus ( newt ) and Triton alpestris ( Alpine newt ).

Inflows

In addition to several small unnamed tributaries of the Teufelsbach only has a greater influx. This is the orographic right location Schmerlenbach.

Name Meaning

The name so can be derived from the Old High German tiufal or the Middle High German tiuvel or tievel - which means devil. Why the landscape was enlivened by the devil in popular belief, this part is unknown.
