Thaddeus C. Sweet

Thaddeus Campbell Sweet ( born November 16, 1872 in Phoenix, Oswego County, New York, † May 1, 1928 in Whitney Point, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1923 and 1928 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thaddeus Sweet attended the common schools and the Phoenix Academy. He then spent two years as a traveling merchant on the go. Since 1895 he was involved in the production of paper. He became president of the company Sweet Paper Manufacturing Co. He was also active in the banking industry. Between 1896 and 1899 he also served as town clerk in Phoenix. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1910 and 1920 he sat as an MP in the New York State Assembly, the Speaker he was since 1914.

After the death of Mr Luther W. Mott Sweet was in the overdue election for the 32th seat from New York as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1923. After two re- elections he could remain until his death on May 1, 1928 Congress. From 1925 to 1927 he was Chairman of the Committee for the control of expenditures of the War Department. He died in a plane crash in Whitney Point and was buried in Phoenix.
