Thaddeus Ma Daqin

Thaddeus Ma Daqing (Chinese马达钦/马达钦, Pinyin Mǎ Daqing; * 1968 ) is a Chinese Roman Catholic bishop.

Biography

Priest

After his studies at the Theological and Philosophical Seminary in Sheshan, he was ordained a priest in 1994. He worked as editor of the Guangqi Press of the Diocese of Shanghai, one of the two major Catholic publishers in China and was pastor of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Tangmuqiao and dean of the deanery Pudong. On December 16, 2011, he was appointed by Bishop Aloysius Jin Luxian Vicar General of the Diocese of Shanghai.

Bishop

On 30 May 2012, he was appointed by the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association coadjutor of Shanghai. He soon received the approval of Pope Benedict XVI. to his episcopal ordination. However, the diocese of Shanghai possessed in the eyes of the Vatican already has a coadjutor in the person of Msgr. Jin, so that Ma was perceived by the Vatican as a suffragan bishop in Shanghai. He was ordained on July 7, 2012 at the St. Ignatius Cathedral Shanghai bishop, in the presence of eighty-five priests and six bishops, including one not recognized by Rome.
