The Belairs

The Belairs were an American surf band that in 1960 in the cast Eddie Bertrand ( electric guitar ), Paul Johnson ( guitar ), Richard Delvy (drums), Chas Stewart (saxophone) and Jim Roberts (piano) formed in South Bay, California. With their instrumental piece Mr. Moto, the band peaked in 1961, the top 20 of the Billboard charts in the U.S.. Mr. Moto is considered as the first single of the 1960s surf era. In 1963, the band broke up and gave in the 1980s and 1990s repeatedly revival concerts.

Biography

Eddie Bertrand and Paul Johnson were still in high school when she in 1959, started to jointly instrumental rock ' n' roll tracks by Duane Eddy, Johnny and the Hurricanes and The Fireballs replay and later write their own pieces. Initially they performed as a duo in various local music clubs; a little later they were joined by Richard Delvy, Chas Stewart and Jim Roberts. In 1961 they performed for the first time under the name The Belairs: the band organized in Southern California regional (school ) Dance Events ( High School Dances ), which were up to four-digit numbers of visitors to success.

In the summer of 1961 the band booked the recording studio Liberty Recording Studios in Hollywood for an hour and took the five titles Mr. Moto, Vampire, Little Brown Jug, Three Blind Mice Make It To Santa's Village and Kamikaze. After the Belairs with various record labels had negotiated their first record was released in Arvee Records: Label owner Sonny Bono mixed the studio recordings of the band from new and released the single Mr. Moto / Little Brown Jug. The single was played regularly by regional radio stations, and after a few teething problems reached Mr. Moto early 1962 the Top 20 The Belairs to 1962 were one of the most popular bands in California. They appeared in television shows and had with The Belair Club has its own music club.

Richard Delvy left the band in 1962, after he had in vain demanded more money for his work as a manager. He formed the band The Challengers. A little later, Eddie Bertrand and the new drummer Dick Dodd left the band because they could not agree on the guitar sound with Paul Johnson. Bertrand founded the band with Dodd Eddie & The Showmen, a very successful live band of instrumental surf genre. The end of 1963 also left the band and Paul Johnson founded the group PJ & The Galaxies. The Belairs broke up with it. In the 1980s and 1990s, the band for occasional stage appearances came back together in the original cast, but noted thereafter her musical activity.
