Action

An old man and a 16- year-old girl living on a boat in the middle of the sea. The girl lived continuously for 10 years on board. For its 17th birthday, the old man has planned the wedding with the girl. Until then, he regularly brings fishermen on board, one day a young man who comes to the girl closer and jeopardizes the plans of the old. The titular arch is the man both as an instrument with which he can tender melodies arise as a deterrent weapon and as an accessory for an obscure Wahrsagungs ritual.

Interesting

  • The entire location of the arc consisted only of sea and an old fishing boat.
  • Filming began on January 2, 2005 under the extremely bad weather conditions. The film crew went through 17 days filming on the sea in the bitter cold, without decent food or a proper toilet. About 50 crew members had to squeeze on the narrow boat with all its equipment and props.
  • Kim Ki -duk the bow would necessarily use it as a musical instrument. However, it was impossible to elicit it sounds. So he decided to use a special violin for music recordings. When he heard play by chance the violinist ( Haegum ) Kang Eun- il, he had the feeling that their music had been written specifically for the bow. Kang Eun -il's compositions " Fade Out" and " Soaring " were then inserted into the film.

Criticism

" From disgust to admiration, there has been a wide range of reactions to Kim's films, which differ greatly in their radicalism from each other. The bow should, however, meet with indifference. "

" No doubt, The bow is brittle and oppressive. The narrowness of the venue prohibits Kim usual comic digressions and turns. And yet again shows his narrative ingenuity, can convince especially the performer. Han Yeo - reum as a girl is ravishing, the stereotype of the Far Eastern woman-child almost fulfilling. Jeon Sung- hwan as an old man - stoic, virile, yet elegant. It is the dramatic center of the film. "
