Action
Alaska, 1900: John Thornton buys stolen from his California home dog Buck, who soon as the head of his sled dogs is his faithful companion and with him in the delivery of mail, which he wants to build with his friend Pete between Skagway and Dawson City, many adventures experienced. One day gets Thornton because of the saloon owner Calliope Laurent with the liquor wholesalers Black Burton into a heated argument, but it may decide in his favor. Two helpers to take revenge on Thornton by Buck and other dogs to steal what is possible; on the way back they come, however, and the dogs get into the hands of inexperienced prospectors who must be rescued by Thornton from danger. The following winter Thornton Calliope helps when building a new hotel. But then he decides to open like Pete to the Klondike to search for gold. When Buck meets wolves, he follows the call of the wild, but will return in the fall to Thornton, who is now working after an unsuccessful search as a hotel manager. But in the spring it pulls it out again - this time successfully: With Pete discovers a legendary Indian gold mine. However, their owners want to keep the secret and kill the two companions. Buck disappears into the woods.

Background
The people are often referred to as co- authors Hubert Frank ( Germany ), Tibor Reves (Spain) and Federico de Urrutia (Italy ) were only responsible for the translation into the corresponding language. The German dubbed version was created under the leadership of Arne Elsholtz.
The exterior shots were taken in Norway.
