The Dalles (French dalle = stone slab ) is a city in Wasco County in the U.S. state of Oregon.
History
Lewis and Clark camped during their expedition near the creek Mill Creek from 25 to 27 October 1805. The first mention of " Dalles " is in the book Narrative of the year 1814. Dalles was also a station of the Oregon Trail.
The Dalles received city rights in 1857. Today it is the most important economic center between Portland and Pendleton.
In 1984, the city victim of a bioterrorist attack of the Bhagwan sect. 751 people were infected with salmonella, who have spent the followers of the sect in ten salad bars. This was the first attack of its kind in the United States.

The Dalles is located on the Columbia River and has the following road links: Interstate 84 ( West), U.S. Highway 30 and U.S. Highway 197
