The Exceptions

The exceptions (in short: TEX) had a demo crew of the 16- bit computer era.

They were the initial spark for the Atari ST demo scene. With the demos README.PRG (1987 ), Little Sound Demo ( LSD), Little Color Demo ( LCD) and the big BIG Demo ( Best In Galaxy) they first showed the potential of ST hardware by ausloteten by technical tricks the limits of the system. For the sound chip Yamaha YM- 2149 SSG (Software - Controlled Sound Generator) came own driver to use and raster lines interrupts the entire color palette of the computer could be displayed simultaneously on the screen. Although the ST did not support hardware scrolling, so-called soft scrolling established by self-programmed routines in the demos. Scrolling refers to the moving of the screen contents in different directions, as it often occurs in computer games. Later TEX was part of the alliance The Union and contributed to The Union demo. There was also the The Amiga Demo ( 1988), were in the play on samples based songs that were originally produced on the Amiga platform, on the Atari ST. TEX was provided also a contribution to the demo Life is a bitch of the English demo crew The Lost Boys.

Some members later found in the computer game industry its first livelihood. Thus arose the RPG Dragon Flight ( 1990) by Thailon software almost exclusively by the former co- TEX members. Especially Jochen Hippel was the sound icon for the Atari ST and participated in numerous games with.

Members of the group were:

  • Jochen Hippel, aka Mad Max (Music)
  • Eric Simon, aka ES ( graphic)
  • Michael Raasch, aka Daryl ( programmer)
  • Udo Fischer, also known as ME ( programmer)
