The Funen Village

The Funen Village ( " The Funen Village ") is an open-air museum in Odense, Denmark. It is located in the southern part Fruens Bøge and shows 25 rural buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries, all of which have originally been on the island of Funen and have been faithfully reconstructed.

The museum was founded in 1942 initially as a job creation measure and was eleven months after the end of World War II opened its doors on April 1, 1946. The open-air theater had been opened two years earlier.

The museum is laid out as a relatively compact village. Almost all buildings are accessible. In them not only historic residential culture is shown. Even old crafts are museum alive. Also a ring furnace brick belongs to the museum, as well as several typical of Funen Vierseithof and the inn Sortebro Kro, in which a restaurant serves modern Scandinavian cuisine. The actual farmhouses including cottage gardens in the old style, as well as some pets usually older and rare breeds, so that the visitor gets the impression of a lively village of the 19th century.

The open-air theater in the summer season often find concerts with famous singers and bands instead. In the summer of 2011, among other things, the status quo, Texas and Bob Dylan as a guest.
