The Glitter Band

The Glitter Band began as a backing band of Gary Glitter and published in 1974, even without Gary songs. It is one of the most famous representatives of Glam Rock. Was there from the peculiarity that two drummers playing at the same time. In 1977, the group split at first, but came together again in 1981.

History

When Gary Glitters first single Rock and Roll Parts 1 and 2, a number - two hit in the UK was, he realized that he would need a band. He contacted for his manager John Rossall, who at the time was the musical director of " Boston Show Band ". With small changes in personnel it was initially "The Glittermen " and later " The Glitter Band ", the Gary Glitter accompanied in TV shows and live performances, while the instrumental tracks were recorded mostly from producer and co-author Mike Leander on Glitters studio recordings and hits. After 1972 Ray Moxley was thrown out of the band at first, the band had no bass player. He was replaced by John Springate of The Foundations.

1973 suggested John Rossall Mike Leander that the band should record your own records. Leander, who also took over the productions for the Glitter Band, and went on to the first recordings, however, were discarded. The band eventually took on Angel Face. Previously, they had some live performances with its own material and cover versions from the 50s and 60s.

In March 1974, Angel Face was released by Bell Records and went straight to number 4 in the UK. It was followed by other hit singles such as Just for You and Let's Get Together Again. John Rossall, the musical director of the band was and had composed together with Gerry Shephard, the first three hits, left the group in late 1974. Until 1976, the glitter band released three albums and a " greatest hits " compilation. With People Like You and People Like Me, written by Gerry Shephard and John Springate, they had their last hit in early 1976. As the sales went down significantly and glam rock was replaced by new trends in music such as disco or the then emerging punk rock, the Glitter Band Bell separated, signed a contract with CBS Records and shortened their name to "G band". In 1977, the band broke up, however. In the 1980s, the musicians found themselves for occasional appearances as The Glitter Band together.

The guitarist Gerry Shephard died in May 2003. John Rossall and Harvey Ellison, the two saxophonists, occur today under the name of The Glitter Band on. Pete Phipps is touring with its own " Glitter Band " and is also involved in Brian Connolly (†) Sweet- sequel "BC Sweet ". John Springate lives on the Costa del Sol in Spain, is a music producer and entertainer. Tony Leonard plays in his own band called " Soul Time ".
