The Grotto, Victoria

The Grotto is a breakthrough in the rock on the Great Ocean Road near Port Campbell in Victoria, Australia. Its foundation owes natural causes of erosion.

Description and History

The country brand was created by the pressure of the wave motion of the local tidal range and the dissolving influence of salty sea water: In the dry phase during the low tide, the water and the salt of sea water evaporated formed salt crystals, which exerted pressure in the pores, cracks and crevices of the rock and it ablösten.
