Happy ending for a marriage is an American feature film from the year 1969.

Action

Mary and Fred Wilson live a financially carefree life of the upper middle class in Denver. Fred focuses on his work as a tax attorney, while Mary runs the household and take care of the education of the young daughter margin. Mary is bored with the daily routine of her marriage. She drinks and watches TV. Just before the 16th anniversary of Mary Wilson breaks out from their familiar world. Spontaneously, she booked a plane ticket to Nassau. On the way there she meets her old school friend Flo, who also flies to the Bahamas to meet her lover Sam there. In Nassau, Mary is immediately courted by the attractive Franco. But Franco has set it apart just for the money an apparently lonely woman. When Mary confesses to him that she is even without any money, he lets go of her. For Mary this experience is just another violation of their soul. She begins to rethink her life. In her marriage she already had a suicide attempt and then began to drink heavily. Frustrated, she started buying high, which meant that husband Fred had to lock their credit cards. At home also makes Fred thought about the future together. He decides to call Mary and ask for forgiveness for his mistakes. As her friend Flo decides to accept a marriage proposal from Sam, Mary finally returns to Denver. However, you must quickly realize that Fred had just afraid of losing his reputation. He sees a functioning marriage as a status symbol. Therefore, Mary does not return back home, but to rent a small apartment and takes on a job. The course of evening classes to give her life a new twist and a new meaning. One night she meets her husband Fred again. The marriage to Fred could again have a common future changes.

The film received three 1970 Golden Globe nominations in the categories "Best Song", " Best Music " and " Best Actress " (Jean Simmons ). Jean Simmons received for her portrayal also nominated for an Oscar. The song What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life? by Michel Legrand (music) and Alan and Marilyn Bergman also received an Oscar nomination.
