The House of Love

The House of Love are an English rock band that had their biggest hits in the early 90.

Band History

After Guy Chadwick's first band Kingdoms came to an end after only a single, the guitarist and singer of the English Islington went looking for a new band. For the band's name, the novel A Spy stood in the House of Love by Anaïs Nin Godfather. Together with his friend, drummer Pete Evans, he was looking for other musicians by advertisement in Melody Maker and found the guitarist Terry Bickers, the New Zealand bassist Chris Groothuizen and the German singer and guitarist Andrea Heukamp. They made soon as a live band in her home a name.

As a big fan of The Jesus and Mary Chain Chadwick remained stubbornly to their record boss Alan McGee off until the band finally allowed to record their first single Shine On in May 1987, which appeared at McGee's label Creation Records. The critical acclaim was followed by a second single, little attention before they secured through captivating concerts a larger fan base. Singer Andrea, who had become too much for the tours, took a break from the band before 1988, the Single Christine and the first album appeared. Both publications conquered the peaks of the independent charts not only in England but also in the rest of Europe and in the USA.

Although they then graced the front pages of music magazines and they predicted a great career, launched their first single Never in a new label with a moderate number 41 in the official UK charts. There were the typical rock'n'roll airs such as alcohol and drug abuse and vandalism, negative headlines, which led to more cautious reactions. The next single I Do not Know Why I Love You also got stuck at number 41, but was it her biggest hit in the U.S. Modern Rock Charts (2nd place 1990). Shortly thereafter, an argument arose between Guy and Terry Bickers and separation: Terry was replaced by Simon Walker, the guitarist of the Dave Howard Singers.

In February 1990, they took their very first single Shine On on new and thus scored their biggest hit single in the UK with 20th place immediately following the album, like all the early albums was not wearing a title, and is usually called the Butterfly album (due to the illustrated, cover filled Butterfly ), even reached number 8 in the album charts and sold over 400 000 times. This was followed by tours of England, where The House of Love, even the Royal Albert Hall crowded, Europe and the United States.

Then two singles like the Beatles and the Stones, The Girl with the Loneliest Eyes, Feel and You Do not Understand and they were just like the third album Babe Rainbow average chart success. Simon Walker then left again in 1992 due to musical differences the band and was replaced by various guest musicians on the album recordings. Simon Mawby, who had played guitar already for Jimmy Somerville, the band added to the following U.S. tour.

As a result, The House of Love took a trio still an album that brought them again into the charts, but Pete Evans had already decided to give up the music business, and so in 1993, the end of the band was once arrived.

Guy Chadwick pursued after other projects and eventually tried to solo, as Chris Groothuizen. 2002, it finally came to the somewhat surprising comeback of The House of Love. First joined just the old brawlers Chadwick and Terry Bickers, the original guitarist, who had been successful in the meantime with his band Levitation, together to form a duo under the old name. Then drummer Peter Evans returned, bassist Matt Jury was added again and they went on tour again. In 2004, she even took again an album, Days Run Away, with its single release Love You Too Much, they again came to the UK charts in 2005.

2005 coverte the Norwegian band Apoptygma Berzerk Shine On their hit and was in Germany in the charts very successfully.
