Apoptygma Berzerk ( short forms: APB, APOP ) is a Norwegian music project that was founded in 1989 in Sarpsborg by Stephan L. Groth and Jon Erik Martinsen.

History

Since Martinsen short time got out after the band's formation, Apoptygma Berzerk was first a solo project. The musical spectrum encompasses many aspects of electronic music, ranging from electric to trance and techno elements and is often referred to as Future Pop; However, the band also incorporated rock elements such as drums and guitars in their tone.

The work of Stephan Groth is characterized among other things by numerous remixes and cover versions. Many of these musical influences found it in a less obvious form of samples and quotations in the band's music. So in addition to some reinterpreted hits of the 1980s, the theme song of the series " Twin Peaks" and a guitar solo of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain were reused on the albums of the band.

On the album Sonic Diary exclusively cover songs can be heard. This album is as regular version and as a limited edition double album with 9 remixes.

On 12 October 2007 have been published ( except APBL98 ) all older APB albums new in Remastered Edition.

Published in early 2009 Apoptygma Berzerk her latest studio album Rocket Science. Characteristic of this album is a mix of electronic sounds and rock elements. Content, the album deals with, among other conspiracy theories and media criticism.

On 10 September 2009, the birthday of singer Stephan Groth, gave several band members known to separate personal reasons Apoptygma Berzerk. According to official figures, the separation was by mutual agreement. Apoptygma Berzerk will continue to exist with Stephan L. Groth as head of the band and the new band members for live performances. 2009 and 2010 toured Apoptygma Berzerk through Europe and the United States. End of 2010 to early 2011 Apoptygma Berzerk was as support act with Unholy on tour. To date the band has sold over 500,000 albums worldwide.

In addition to Apoptygma Berzerk Stephan Groth still operates the project Fairlight Children. Because since their debut album in 2004 so far no new material has been published and Stephan Groth is currently mainly devoted his main project Apoptygma Berzerk, it is unclear whether and when a new publication is pending.
