The Jacobin ( Jakobín Czech ) is an opera by Antonín Dvořák in three acts to a libretto by Marie - Červinková Riegrová and František Ladislav Rieger. In addition to the first version, which was successfully premiered on February 12, 1889 in Prague, there is a second - now common - version. This arose as a result of numerous revisions in 1897 by Dvořák himself and was listed in 1899 for the first time in Prague. In 1931 it was first performed in German language, but was able to prevail only slowly.

Action

Act I

Count William of Harasov violated his own son because of his too liberal thoughts and bowed his nephew to Adolf. Bohuš went to Paris and was condemned in his family as a Jacobin. Just today, for Kirchweihfest Bohuš versa, without being seen, accompanied by his wife Julia on the estate of his father back, but on which the old count seldom staying. The strange couple observed flowing out of the church youth, the old teacher Benda with his daughter Terinka and her suitor, the aging, inflated Burggrafen Filip, but also the hunter companions Jiří, who is the young girl much better. Out of jealousy Jiří sings a pointed to the viscount satirical song and puts it thus in fury. Bohuš and Julia heard of the " wayward son Graf ", but soon got himself under suspicion, since they come from Paris and pretend to be an artist. The old Count is arrived with his nephew, is respectfully welcomed by the people and declared Adolf for his heirs.

Second Act

In the classroom the teacher Benda rehearsing with choir, soloists, children and festive cantata as a welcome gift for the rule. Terinka and Jiří sing the solo part. With him also Bohuš and Juliet find a friendly shelter. The Viscount is to make the pretty Terinka the yard and threatens Jiří with military service. Immediately afterwards comes Adolf and promises the viscount the highest office, if he manages to arrest the suspect, foreign couple. Bohuš occurs prior to thwart further intrigue Adolphus, the Viscount can pay him to jail.

Act Three

While Jiří is locked up in jail, it succeeds the old teacher Benda, enter using the Beschließerin Lottinka into the castle and talk with the Count. The Count but refuses to forgive his son. Julia decides to act and sing a song that once nursed the deceased Countess to sing her son in hiding. The old lullaby moves the Count to give Julia hearing. The Count can free the prisoners from the dungeon and makes peace with his son and daughter in law. Ultimately, he also gives the young couple and Jiří Terinka his blessing.
