The Lounge Lizards

The Lounge Lizards is a New York jazz band, the saxophonist John Lurie founded in 1978. Lurie called their music first as fake jazz.

History

The band initially ironic attitude of jazz and linked " the ferocity of punk with the cool poses of the film noir era. " That first album was produced by Teo Macero and released in 1981 on Editions EG. In November of the same year she played for the first time in Germany at the JazzFest Berlin.

From the band's other bands, The Golden Palominos 1983 initially led by Anton Fier and Arto Lindsay, in 1990, the Jazz Passengers with Roy Nathanson, Curtis Fowlkes, Marc Ribot and EJ Rodriguez emerged several times. In the 1990s, Steven Bernstein, Michael Blake and Calvin Weston belonged to the band, which was still managed by John Lurie; also there playing David Tronzo and Doug Wieselman as guitarist and Billy Martin and Ben Perowsky as a drummer and John Medeski. The so far last album the band released in 1998. Lurie broke after 2000 his musical career due to illness largely on.
